Jalisco: Who were the protagonists of the confrontation in Teocaltiche?

A clash between armed groups on the border of Jalisco and Zacatecas generated a violent day of violence.

Early Friday morning, vehicles were set on fire at two toll booths on the Guadalajara-Lagos de Moreno highway. The first event took place at the Jalostotitlán toll booth where a tractor-trailer and a van were set on fire, the driver of the truck was injured with first and second degree burns, his health condition is reported as stable and out of danger; at the San Miguel El Alto toll booth, a burned tractor-trailer, an urban van, a pickup truck and three sedans were secured, in these events there were no injuries or deaths.

These criminal acts were carried out due to a confrontation between armed groups at the crossroads between Teocaltiche and Nochistlán, on the border between Jalisco and Zacatecas, in order to prevent the arrival of security forces.

Where did the Teocaltiche confrontation take place and between whom?

The events took place in the early hours of the morning in the community of Apulco, in the municipality of Teocaltiche, Jalisco, bordering the municipality of Nochistlán, in Zacatecas; according to preliminary versions, the shootout began when groups of the New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Sinaloa Cartel, which are disputing the control of that territory, clashed.


When elements of the Mexican Army intervened, the confrontation spread and some chases ensued, resulting in the burning of vehicles on the highway to hinder the authorities’ efforts.

The governor of Jalisco reported the event on his social networks: “In the early morning there was a confrontation between alleged members of organized crime in the road crossings between Teocaltiche and Nochistlan, on the border with Zacatecas. Several vehicles were secured, some with armor plating and long weapons,” he said.


He said that preliminarily it is known that there were no injuries and that the burned vehicles are already being removed by the authorities to free the road points that had been blocked.
